Want a really easy popsicle stick stop and go craft and activity to use for young ones? Try this out now!
Psst! You can even try it on older ones that need to learn how to listen and follow directions! I cannot guarantee that it will be as effective though.
it’s a Hexagon-shaped paper, with Stop (listen carefully) on one side, and Go (quickly obey) on the other side.

How to Create the Craft.
- Simply download and print this paper here:
- fold the paper in half, so the hexagons are back to back,
- cut around the outline.
- glue the inside edges shut except for the bottom where you will either insert the popsicle stick, or you can glue the popsicle stick in first, then glue the top on it. . . I feel like I just confused myself, but it really is simple.
- Color the Stop side Red
- Color the Go side Green.
- Now use it in directional games.
Red light green light:
One person holding the stop sign is at the finish line, and everyone else stands at the start. as long as the sign is on the stop, they can’t move, but switch it to go, while simultaneously closing your eyes, and they try to move as fast as possible. flip the sign to stop, then open your eyes. If you catch anyone moving, they go back to start. First one to touch you wins! And they can be the next sign holder.
Follow the Leader:
The leader holds the sign, when the Stop is held out, everyone must be quiet and listen to the directions. No one can go until the person turns the green over. Instructions to follow the leader by hopping 3 steps, crawling 10 seconds, walking backwards8 steps, etc,. The leader makes sure they follow, if they don’t, they’re out for that round. Keep the instructions going, and progressively getting harder, till the last one is left. They then become the leader.
Preschool, or any class:
This makes an effective, and quiet way to let the class know that you are giving instructions. They need to be taught the first what each side means.
Stop and listen carefully. There will be instructions that they do not want to miss. Remind them that even though they may get excited and want to start right away, it is best to listen carefully to everything the teacher says, before starting.
Go and quickly obey. Now is the time for them to go and obey. If there are little ones that get distracted, or are slowly moving forward, encourage them with the sign that it is meant to be followed with enthusiasm.
At home.
Need to organize your children into a de-junking squad for the garage? Or a well-run evening schedule? go for this sign, explain the plan, and then turn the sign around excitedly. It will make every person around excited to obey! (well, maybe not, but I bet it will work once or twice).
